From being on trial for using magic in front of a muggle (a normal person who doesn’t know magic), to adjusting to a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher with a “unique” teaching style, Harry must rely on himself and only his closest friends, Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson). Although Dumbledore is one of the only ones who shares Harry’s belief, Dumbledore strangely distances himself from Harry. Harry must attack his struggles by himself, as he and Dumbledore, the principal of Harry’s school, are being ostracized for their beliefs in the imminent return of Voldemort, the Dark Lord. He decides to take action to fix the troubles facing him. However, the movie is much more than Harry wallowing in self-pity. From the opening moments of the film when he is fighting with his cousin Dudley and rehashing the death of his parents, they all allow Harry’s human side to emerge.

There are six books in the series out so far, and more than 325 million copies have been sold in 63 languages. Unlike many of the other movies, this one adds a slight twist of humor, making it all the more remarkable.Įverybody knows Harry Potter. Of course most probably didn't even know to look for that bit.Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix definitely lives up to all the expectations. Quick question: was that Emma Thompson's voice in the propechy ball at the end? If so, that is one way of filling in the audience that it was Trelawney. I had read the book so I could, but I took my parents to see it who had not, and I had to do some explaining to them afterwards. This movie almost seemed to assume that everyone viewing the movie had read the book and knew they could fill in the blanks from that source.

So he just looks like a little sleaze again. Also, I think that the bit about Snape tipping off the Order was left out as well. I've read a few things that fills out the details (from the book) that make the film's shortcomings even more alarming (the whole prophecy thing is just glossed over or not given the weight it should have in the film, so I was just puzzled by it in the final act). I think my main problem with the film is that the film is a decent companion piece to the book, but if you haven't read the book, the film doesn't quite measure up as a cohesivie viewing experience, and so much is sacrificed for the plot's sake that the character development just seems short-changed. Whereas with GOF, I was constantly using the book to fill in all the gaps they were leaving in the storytelling. It had been a long time since I read the book, and thus forgot a lot of stuff, but had zero trouble following this at all. This one may have deviated from the book, but at least it felt like a complete movie from beginning to end. It introduced characters without resolving them, had zero pacing (just jumped from one action scene to another) and had some of the worst ham acting I've seen in the series. If the 2D print just got moved to a new location without IMAX sending the 3D print along with it, then no one on Earth would be able to make it 3D.Īlso, I find it funny that people are calling this one disjointed and/or complaining about the cuts from the book when The Goblet of Fire was a complete mess from a storytelling perspective.

so if Order of the Phoenix were ever to get moved to one of the other two Smithsonian 3D IMAX screens, I can bet you, they couldn't or wouldn't know how to present the last twenty minutes in 3D.Is it the same print as the 2D version? Because IMAX 3D requires two separate prints that run through the projector at the same time. Side comment: even when Superman Returns moved from Udvar Hazy to the downtown Air and Space Museum which does have a 3D system, the shumcks couldn't get a 3D print or know how to feature a film in partial 3D.
